Rough-Finished Ceramic in Natural Lichi Multicolor
Rough-finished ceramic embodies the elemental character of baked earth: an unglazed, porous body derived from natural clay minerals and traditionally fired at lower temperatures than vitrified ceramics. With a density around 2,000 kg/m³ and a compressive strength of approximately 45 MPa, it offers dependable structural performance for its weight, though it is comparatively weak in tension. Its inherent porosity makes it breathable, contributing to thermal regulation, a property historically valued in Mediterranean and Mesoamerican architecture, while the rough, tactile surface speaks to organic, handcrafted sensibility. This natural 'lichi' multicolour finish, reminiscent of the lychee fruit's skin, is achieved through controlled hammering for a subtly granulated, non-slip surface with organic depth.
